Coldplay - Violet Hill

This is a first for Official Orange. I'm going to review a song. The band is Coldplay, the song, Violet Hill. I'll start off by saying, it's a great song. I love it. It starts off great. "Was a long and dark December, from the rooftops I remember, there was snow...white snow..." Then, there's a very dramatic, rock'n'roll riff played by the lead guitar. It almost startled me the first time I heard it, because I would NEVER expect something like that from Coldplay. And, I think the other guys were as startled as I was, because they immediately gave him the look that says "Calm down dude, remember? We're Coldplay. We don't do that." The pianist comes in to save the day though, so as to not scare away potential listeners. Then, there's a crazy (crazy for Coldplay at least) guitar solo in the middle of the song. I like Coldplay, but this is just too much. I've almost found myself rocking out to it before. The drums are good and go along with the song, but yeesh. They're not Coldplay anymore. They're like AC/DC. It's ridiculous! They don't actually sound like AC/DC, but the guitarist has lost his mind. They morph back into Coldplay at the end of the song though, which then leads in to Strawberry Swing. That reminds me of old Coldplay, but how could I forget what just happened?! The good news is that it was the free track of the week on iTunes when it came out. I got it right away. Sadly, it's not free anymore. You'll have to shell out $.99 to pick up this track. But, it's worth it. Great song!
